Disagree on Zakk, at least up to a point. I think he's perceived as this very narrow one-dimensional cartoon character pseudoshredder/squealie-chugger. I like him up through Hangover Music. Pride & Glory and Book Of Shadows and the older BLS stuff are cool in my book. He does have some real depth.

Disagree on Tool. Their fanbois are, well, tools. Good band, though. And they don't take themselves nearly as seriously as their reputation implies. (Or said fanbois.)

*- Fanboiism aside, DT is overrated by the general musician population 'cause they're the modern prog band everyone knows. Their keyboardist especially needs to... just stop already.

I like PT, and think they're rated about where they should be. Frankly, it's nice to hear a modern band that identifies themselves as progressive rock where the only showoffy bits are generally played by the drummer, who is quite good. Shred ≠ Prog. Better songwriters than most of that crowd, and devoid of cheesemetal. Even though their last album sucked.

He is one of the worst "professional" guitarists I've ever seen live. I saw Ozzy and Rob Zombie a few years back and was so disappointed with how he played. John 5 on the other hand kicked fuck.

Tool if anything is underrated. No one who follows mainstream shit has any idea who they are. All the members of the band are extremely talented as well.

'Cause he actually has albums with quality material and has significantly more to his playing than the fast alternate-picked pentatonics and weedly chug riffs his reputation implies- and his "guitar hero" status is built upon. Go figure, he's more interesting for what he's not as famous for, and not- or wasn't- a shitty songwriter either.

I saw BLS live some years back, and yeah, he was mad wasted and went on uberlate. The sound was terrible at the venue too. And the openers were fuckall awful. It was a total wash of a show. Doesn't diminish what I think of his recorded catalog any. Oh, and I strongly dislike Ozzy solo, FWIW.

I suppose Zakk is probably overrated by guitarists as a whole, but underrated by guitarists who actually know their shit, which is kinda ironic.

Tool = really good band. Annoying fanboys. Still a really good band.

Zakk has his own style, image, and hes written a grip classic heavy metal solos / songs. Hes neither underrated nor overrated.

Being on musician's forums does kinda warp one's perspective of what's over- and underrated.

Example: General public has no idea who Dream Theatre/Mike Porntoy are, we think they're a fat lot o' tossers 'cause highschoolers with subscriptions to Guitar World, Modern Drummer et al. think they're the greatest thing since Jesus Christ invented oral sex.

Most people I talk to hate on Zakkk Wyldzzz, so I find it hard to consider him overrated.

I know plenty of non-musicians who listen to Tool, but they are not super popular. Besides fanbois, I really can't consider them overrated either.
