Congrats to her Dev!

This swanky posh black tie dinner I'm going to on Monday is looming closer and I really don't think I want to go now. I'm definitely gonna be the most under dressed there and it's gonna be full of snobby horse racing types. Still, it's a free piss up with my work mates so it can't be that bad I guess.

Aside from the obvious bits of Clutchiness to it here and there, i am getting a strong and pleasant vibe of Corrosion Of Conformity from this 'n. Righteous. :huzzah:

You know I've never really listened to much CoC, but I love Down so that's probably where that influence is coming from :isay:

i've wanted one of those for a LONG time, but never had the scratch. man would that be the ticket for drum recording. lemme know if you hate it :D although there's approximately zero chance of that..

I haven't yet, but soon! Alex and I just gotta figure out a day we can make it up there, should be quite soon. :huzzah:

That was indeed my intention/impression, re: drums. I am curious how the BB channels compare in actual practice. I am really excited to get my hands on this thing. :red:

It has become some of an obsession of mine to to ponder/figure out how big differences there are between preamps, mainly based upon their dollar value. I got the US-1800 and a couple tube pres (Art Pro MPA & TL Audio PA-2) and it will be interesting to compare a budget model interface and two middle of the road-ish options with something that's considering super fucking hifi. :red:

not sure m'self. i suspect they're just smoother and less grainy, maybe just a tad less dynamic.

i think you're gonna like the doggone thing.. seriously.. if you have the scratch get your ass to vancouver or wherever the fuck in canadaland it is, 'cause you'll be bummed to NOT have it once you do. f'ril. if i get down on it for a project that's gonna be a real time sink, i'm ordering one of those units ASAP if a band's seriously paying me for my time. i've been saying that for... 10 years.. :( but half your concurrent tracks through a very good outboard rig? yes. emphatically. uh huh. you betcha. bring it.

don't be pissin' around- grab your passport, son! :D

i know what the board the circuit's from sounds like having recorded two records through one. uh.. yeah, i think you'll like it. :D

i know too, that grabbing a warm wa12 this year, the sounds that come offa good pres just.. yeah.. get in the car..

I am really, REALLY gas'ing for something like this right now. This one is only £270 on GAK at the minute as well, if my Squier VM Bass is anything to go by it could be a bargain fuck about guitar

haHA! My $80 US1800 works perfectly with the PSU circuit board from my $220 US1800 swapped in!

Now to see if 1. Tascam will sell me a new board, and 2. what they want for it.

If 1. is "No" or 2. is "too much" i will have to see about tracing/troubleshooting what i've got here i guess. As a start i think i will see about checking solder joint continuity and whatnot, still hoping for a stupid/easy/free fix. :red:

Motivational/organizational issues resulted in me only getting back to this today. :red:

Tascam wanted something silly for the board(silly when one considers that it is the smallest/simplest board in the unit and i only paid $80 for the whole thing). Was like $73, plus tax and shipping. So i said fuggit, i will save that option for later. Evidently, much later.

Anyhow, i finally got enough of my shit together enough to look back into this today and get the soldering iron going.

So, i removed one shorted diode(its location suggested that it was for the porpoise of polarity protection, hopefully nothing more than that(could be surge protection too i guess)) and the fucking thing fired right up. The diode in question is surface mount and its markings do not mean anything to google/mouser/digikey/etc, so i am just going to go, for the time being, with the assumption, that i don't really need it. :red:

The main thrust of what this means however, is that i now have two completely functional US-1800s, so i can permasetup one in the basement for recording while leaving the other one set up upstairs with my main setup for overdubs and mixing.

Which is fucking perfect/ideal/awesome.

Finished up a really old track/riff today. Not entirely happy with all the drums but I'm just happy I got some musical inspiration back. Just a few hours' work. I should just be in a Clutch tribute act.
