Fired off on the ol' Tone Beast.. Waiting for a Sytek to pop up on da 'bay or elsewhere.

I have not mentioned it, but Matlock is gonna be recording a full length very soon. We're just sort of getting things together and whatnot beforehand. It's going to hopefully sound fantastic. Alex plays bass now, and I play second guitar. It is getting really fucking weird, it is like mathyemopunk meets 80's newwave/postpunk guitar interplay meets Thin Lizzy guitarmonies/solos. It's quite OTT.

So we went to do the taping for The Daily Show today. Spent a bit over an hour drive in, waited and hour and a half for them to be ready to film ran a couple of takes of what they wanted. By the time we left it was 4:30. 4:30 in NY is not a fun time. 3 hours later and I'm home but it was fun and we got $400 each for it so not so bad

Man, I really fucking hate hardcore social culture and the people that choose to make such things their lifestyles.

If I'm reading the above right: it's been my experience that people who are so fully wrapped up in any sort of insular scene, musical or otherwise, tend on the whole to be real narrow shits. They really need to find something the fuck else to do with their time on occasion. It would help them not be insufferable bags o' cocks.

I suppose most of them grow out of it after a while. There are always a few who don't. The sort of people you see at shows and don't want to make eye contact with. I can only speak for my own generation and our immediate predecessors, but most of us in my broad general peer group wound up as slightly eccentric regular d00ds/ladies with better-than-average record collections, and largely concerned with regular people stuff.

Some people remain d-bags their whole lives, whether scenesters or otherwise. Since they are clearly incapable of learning, they are useless for creating a chimpanzee/human hybrid superwarrior and are probably best sold into slavery or used as a fuel source.

I vote fuel source.

I say slavery, fuel source is a nice quick end, but they should be beaten and enslaved. There are simply not enough slaves in the world. I know I could use one.

It is definitely those sorts of fully-enveloped-in-the-scene sorts of folks I am talking about. Like yeah, Discharge is pretty cool and incredibly influencial. But I don't wanna listen to and talk about Discharge constantly and hear WHY? for the thousandth time in my living room at 2AM. The living sitch here has got a little weird, so I am mildly biased at the moment however I know the things I would say hold true anyhow.

I don't know, it's just pretty weird to watch people be pretentious about this kind of music. It's completely rooted in tradition at this point and that is just the most antithetical shit ever. Also, I have a hard time with audiences that are fully capable of suspending their sense of standard of musicianship. I've watched a lot of horseshit bands receive rave reviews for having some sort of gimmick or cred factor. Also, it is always weird to hear someone reacting to their own actions of trying to smarten up their music with "I don't know.. I don't know if people are gonna get it". Creating obscure, aggressive music with the intention of accommodating the dull palette of your audience..?

When scene kids want to wax intellectual about pop punk with me, which is humorous because A) It's pop punk, let's not get ahead of ourselves and B) I don't actually listen to pop punk, I usually just tell them to shut up an buy a t-shirt. Because all they really want is to one day hopefully say "Oh yeah, I talked to the guy from The Oh Whales before they were big and he totally got me this shirt." They don't care about the actual conversation, or actually meeting me, or even what the fuck I was just playing. They just want be the cool kids who knew about the cool bands before they were cool and they can prove it with this cool first edition print of this cool ep this cool band did back when their genre wasn't cool but totally cool cause you know, it wasn't.

Scene kids are the worst, but they also buy t-shirts so I tolerate them.

Seriously, for a pop punk band, scene kids are the best. I always say, ideally, if you have to take someone's money for something, it should probably be a scene kid. As broke as i have generally been throughout my days, i still have long struggled with taking money, from people i like, generally resulting in actually me making myself somewhat or solidly, more broke.

I would have no problem running my finances off the buying power of the hip youth in the scene.

Also, all you motherfuckers were basically born at the same time, eh? We have the same thing for a spell in june or something, don't we? Like all of our parents only ever had sex in like maybe late march and/or late september.

Hay guise ive been a bit quiet recently, had some shit go down over the past few weeks to the point where I thought my life as I knew it was over I managed to get the girl I'd been seeing on and off since September knocked up and she was gonna keep it and didn't realise how stupid that would be at this point in our lives. Suffice to say we're no longer together, she's had an abortion and I feel like I have my life back. You guys are the first I've told about this, I didn't want to worry my friends about it in real life

Wow. That's a lot to go through dude. I think everyone feels they would be a terrible parent. Some how you deal and end up ok, but I think you're much better off without a kid right now. With age comes patience and I think that helps a lot especially to musician/artist types who see to be self absorbed in their lives. Aren't we all.
