Re: What Are U Listening To Right Now: Home Surgery Instruct
That is my favorite track off the album, fo sho. The fucking intro is just too classic.
And yeah, the seem to have quite a few dud albums for my taste. This one and Aldhils Arboretum are fucking righteous, though.

I should mention that though i do like this record a shitlot, listening to it again today when i poasted that, i forgot how i always ALWAYS skip that one long ass one about the past being a grotesque animal or whateverthefuck too-long shit that is. Pretty much everything else on it though, i think is rad. Cool chord+key changes all over the place.

Also, from that one, She's A Rejecter might be my favorite, but it definitely fights with Heimdalsgate for that.

Such the ripper. Considering I don't actually give two shits about "real mathrock" besides Don Caballero and this band's old stuff, this is just what the doctor ordered. Pop music disguised as something else.

The original master is kinda really harsh, but without that, the raw production, unquantized dry drums, and general dirtiness of the thing are appealing.

Now, I always thought the production on this record sucked. Why they didn't go with the superior mixes by Mr. Reinhold Mack, I will never know. And they will probably never say. Because he did, apparently, mix the thing, and bits of it got out.
Funny, even in a bootleg of a bootleg of a bootleg on Youtube, it sounds way better mixed by the dude who did the Queen, ELO, etc. records. Things have dimension. You can hear the details and layers. The official authorized version is a one-dimensional wash of reverb.

And since I went there, Youtube took me to this fabulous little side project, which is actually pretty spiffy if you like repetitive electro.
Features once-and-future members of The Damned, Motörhead, and Suicide, among others. Frankly, it probably has serious hipster cred, except they're not cool enough to know it exists.

Just watch it. There's two-hand-tapping on a cello. Among everything else one can concievably do with a plain old non-electric cello. And beautiful vocals reminiscent of Dead Can Dance.

I thought it fucked around a bit too much(as we all know here, i have the patience of like a four-year-old child for long songs), but overall liked it when it got to its point. Section in the middle where she is singing in english words, reminded me a lot for some reason, of early Genesis sorts of stuff.
Felt like the cello dude made a bit too much bow-on-wood noise in the first section for what the singer was up to then, but i guess that is also one of the things i like about live performances in big spaces on acoustic instruments, there are usually plenty of wrongnoises in with the right.
I really enjoy what pure acoustic instruments are capable of. Range of various frequency noises is amazing/awesome with nothing but resonant wood and vibrating string into a microphone as a source. Pick your instrument right, and you will only ever need one.
I am still thinking that i need to figure out a way to come up with ten grand for a cheapo concert harp hereabaouts.
