I grieved over it. I'm still grieving over it, to be honest.

Welp, today I am going to go to a few shops and see if I can't put my hands on an LH-309. I am fairly certain that's what I will go for, but they do use a V shaped neck on their archtops. While I usually dig V necks, I have played some that didn't feel right in my hands. If it's anything like the Martin HD-28V necks I am going to be a happy camper, but I know it has a wider fretboard so I would IMAGINE the V is going to be a wider angle, so maybe it will be a softer V (which are my favorites.)

This picture does make me a little nervous though:

I have only played one V-shaped neck to my knowledge; it was an Epiphone Masterbilt acoustic. Since you appear to be a connoisseur, what are your thoughts on them in comparison to other neck profiles, and where are they usually found?

You will find them on more traditionally designed guitars. Anything designed with the golden years in mind.

They are interesting beasts. The point of the neck rests right the bottom of your palm, so you don't really feel a V so mach as you just feel a flat neck ... at an angle. I like them, which is odd cause they tend to be chunky by design and I usually like a slimmer neck.

Trying to ease myself into it for sure. In the old days for instance, i never watched the slam sections of any skate video, i tended to find that they kind of killed the mood for going out and rolling around.

In this new era, i am using the slam sections (now i watch Every Godamned One) as a way of sort of tempering my enthusiasm to a level a bit more appropriate for an older, weaker, more fragile version of myself that takes longer to heal from injuries.

good thinking. I just tend to hit things with body parts and can tell you all about healing time as i get older. It does not get easier.

That said, I would rather get hurt, that lay around getting old

Yarr. That is pretty much what the score is, right there. :huzzah:

It is good to see you around T. I know you are busy, seems like lots of foalks round here are these days. Which i guess is good too. Rather have folks having more to to than less. I hope that everyone is out attempting to take over whatever part of the world they reside in. As is proper.

How is the new job going?

Yeah, job has been 80+ hours week for the past 3 weeks so my participation is lacking here. Things should start getting better now, there was a big network install from the network I used to admin so I was the lead over at the project.

Personal life is a mess, but that is a story for a different time. When I see my kids, they are great. That's all that matters.

Gigging tonight so that should be fun, hard to go from 100+ shows a year to 10-20....

not sure what to do with my time, probably why my personal life is fucked.

Musicians need to be busy musicing.

we get into trouble if not.

That sounds rough Tor, i am sorry to hear it. Crazy hours, tough homestuff, and less gigging, sounds like a shitty perfect storm.

As for playing, do you intend to play out more as your schedule allows, or will it just be fewer gigs as a rule heading forward?

I will need to start another band, the GnR thing only gives us a limited number of gigs. Mostly because we won't play cheap gigs. Has to be worth our while.

I am making it through though, Thanks for asking. I seem to make it through tough times. Don't we all though. I'm sure i will get fed up at stuff get into drunken rage and post all my shit here.

I will apologize in advance...

It is true that we don't get a lot of drunken rage posts around here. I feel like it has to be artificially so, as i know we have got some drunken rage in us. We are all just so well behaved, here.

What kind of new bandthing would you want to do T? Put another coverband together like the one you were in before? Are you looking to play a lot more, or just something a bit more steady than the GnR gigs?

Need to learn to play bass with my fingers. Using a pick is the wrong way, in my mind.

It is definitely about 200% phatter with the phingers.

But you know pick bass does have its place. Especially with some overdrive.

It's definitely a different tone. Both have their uses, especially given the string spacing on a bass. I find string skipping a lot easier with fingers rather than a pick. "Disco octaves" with a pick is a pain in the ass. With fingers, it's easy. That being said, I've actually been using a pick a lot more lately. It has its place for some things and tones. Re: overdrive/distortion and fingers, it requires a very consistent, hard attack, or it sounds like ass. Do it right and it sounds tough as hell. See: Godflesh, for example. I don't think he touched a pick the whole show when I saw them, and he was slapping on some songs. Tuned down to F# on a beat-up old P-Bass with an HM-2 into an SVT. Massive toan. I beat the hell out of all my stringéd instruments just on principle, but it's worth noting. Light touch and distorted fingered bass don't really mix well. I have heard- and I could be wrong- Entwistle had a particularly light touch, but compensated with massive volume and natural compression from cranked amps. YMMV. I gather the best heavy finger players whale the everfucking tar out of the thing, and that works for me.

A few things re: picked bass I've picked up recently- one, upstrokes sound more aggressive than downstrokes. Got this from my bassist in Garda. Try it sometime. Two, slack (or light gauge, if you're in standard) strings can give you an attack closer to what you get with hard finger playing. Got this one from my occasional metal collaborator. These are good tricks to know.

QFT. I think, in part, besides being gentlemen of class and refinement, the drunken rage has been sublimated into our personalities over the years. The sheer vitriolic hatred of all mankind is just implicit in everything. We are a cynical lot of bastards. :red: To actually be piss'd enough to rise notably over the baseline everyday level of piss'd would take some real fuckery by life/the universe/everything.

Could possibly not be a truer statement ever made.

Probably just covers, yes. I have been on and off working with a friend who is into the same style as me. Open tunings, Stones, Crowes, roots rock stuff, lots of slide. One of my GnR shows his band opened for us and I got up and did a few songs with them, all open tuning. They have some legit rockstars (older rockstars) in the band. Guitarist from Riot, bassplayer from Billy Idol and Joan Jett, and we all get along real well. They do covers no one else does and its fun.

I'm drunk so maybe I'll get mad about something and post about it. Probably be too busy playing Fallout 4 though.
