And to think I've toned down my drinking a LOT.

Snapchat is pretty amazing at capturing the train wreck that is my drinking.

Sold my LP and I kinda miss it already   SG is my only good electric now and I feel I may have made a mistake. Gonna go play a few Studio faded models when I can and see about a part exchange. The satin ebony one is sexeh.

My fingertips were bleeding quite a bit a couple days back, courtesy of my brand new wood/flesh carving knives. :red:

It must just be the season for it.

Also with the bleeding fingertips. Been dicking around with a Randy Rhoads style backing track thing on youtube for a couple days, my fingers hate me so much right now.

I've been trying to learn some Dimebag solo chops. Kind of a mistake going right for that before my fingertips could callous up.

Yeah, Dimebag's ridiculous vibrato just destroys the old fingers.

So I put a pair of Texas Heats in a small sealed car sub box for shits and giggles. It actually sounds pretty good. Killer bass response.

I've got another new band thing going on now, we're basically playing all of my stuff and some tracks the singer has written and it's sounding pretty great so far :huzzah: as always I'm just hoping it continues and people don't lose interest. I rented an amp at the practice rooms last week, it just said "marshall half stack" online. Turned up to an MG100 and my heart sank. But somehow I managed to get that thing sounding pretty damn good to the point I almost questioned why I've ever bothered with all this expensive valve shit  I might just get an MG as my practice amp tbh, can be had for peanuts.

Marshall MG has good enough sounds in them. The engineers at Marshall voiced it to sound like a Marshall. I admire them for that - they have the ears and the tech expertise to make completely different circuits keep their core sound. A bit drier/less depth than the tube lineup but there are definitely usable sounds in there.

If i stick one more spoon carving knife into my left index knuckle i am going to lose my fucking mind.

Razor sharp sharps should not be double-edged. Motherfucker is getting one of those edges ground right off today.

In other news, i have been carving so many spoons lately. I need batteries for my camera, but it is a lot of fucking spoons. :red:

Bought a DBX 166xl off the ol' web tonight on impulse. :red: Pretty dang cheap though, for two channels $100 is pretty ridiculous. I ain't concerned with it being the best compressor, just want some outboard. I figured they'd be good to get some analog punch-ifying at the source. I feel like only very, very recently I've begun to figure out how to really work a compressor. Almost like I wasn't REALLY hearing what I was doing to the transient response of the given source. Like, I didn't really understand what the attack and release were doing. :red:

I suspect it'll make a good drum puncherator. The DBX stuff has a rather recognizable smack, and any DBX unit whose model designation starts with 16 should get you at least some of the way there. If it's anything, the 266 is actually their super-cheapy one, despite having a higher model number, and I seem to recall the 166 being reasonably well thought of. Certainly, back when live sound wasn't all digital, you'd see huge racks of 166s at venues.

Compression is one of those things you just kinda learn by doing over time, and and playing with as many toys as you can get your hands on. I'd like to think I'm a lot better at it than I was, but I know I'm not as good as I could be.

Nashville Tele with a Modern C Neck, 12" fretboard radius, locking tuners, slab body and a contoured heel?

Well, that's my next guitar. I might have to pull the trigger this weekend.
