Re: What Are U Listening To Right Now: Home Surgery Instruct
I actually just recently acquired that super bonus round three disc Disintegration thing from this year. The second disc with all of the demos is very interesting. Also, the remastering on the first disc is actually really well and tastefully done. At first i was skeptical, as i am with all remasters, but it does sound good.

Re: What Are U Listening To Right Now: Home Surgery Instruct
Noted re: Chris's comments on the Disintigration remaster. I have the Seventeen Seconds remaster (on actual physical CD!) and 's pretty spiffy. I get the impression they did a good job on the Cure reissues. Same deal with the Sisters Of Mercy stuff- they didn't hyperbrickwall the recordings and threw in all the fun B-sides and extras.
The Black Sabbath remasters were well done as well- the original CD issues were teh suck and their catalog was treated very unkindly for many years.
Three of my absolute favorite bands were treated with respect and dignity in a field where so many rarely are. I am happy for this.

Re: What Are U Listening To Right Now: Home Surgery Instruct
The Disintegration remaster definitely strikes me as more the "make it louder, but don't fuck with it" school of remastering. Unlike the Violator remaster i accidentally acquired somewhat recently that i felt sucked, quite hard in spots. And the remaster of Peter Gabriel's So, which was similarly abused in random places. Anyhow, Disintegration-wise, the demos from disc two are probably the coolest bit of it to me though. I love hearing how shit like that comes together. Actually, by the time the demos were recorded, evidently, shit was already pretty fucking together. It is always interesting to hear what different peoples' idea of an "unfinished" song sounds like.

Re: What Are U Listening To Right Now: Home Surgery Instruct
That was the Sisters remasters- actually, bonus points for going off the original vinyl mix of First And Last And Always versus the CD version, which sucked muchly and was a superthin thin reverbed-out blurry mess. There's really not much difference between Floodland and Vision Thing and the first CD versions to my ears. I'll make a point of avoiding the Violator and So remasters then; I'll stick with the originals, thanks. I think I'm going to have to track down the Disintegration remaster if only for the second disc, then...

The Transplants. I'm probably about 8 years too late for this but still, it's kinda good in a strange way
