Re: What i have been doing today...
Oh well, second chinese neck: also fucked. I got both of these at the same time for quite dirt cheap when GFS had a bunch of crap they were clearing out. I suppose they are factory seconds from whatever chinese plant. For something like $25 a piece i figured "why not?" Oh well. That's why not. This second one might be setup-able, once i mess with the nut. But... i had to loosen the truss rod soooo much to get it to straighten out, that the truss rod nut is no longer attached to the guitar. I just pulled it out and set it aside. I also am not 100% sure that the GBE strings are going to play along. If i can get it set up like that, i will, otherwise, i am going to have to leave all of this stuff alone until i can acquire some not-shit tele necks.

I just switched the D'Addario.

I use the D'Addario version, but yes, these or 11s with an unwound G in standard E.

Re: What i have been doing today...
Nah, it is just retard. I have a few necks here, but was really hoping for at least one of these two strattish ones to work for this Garbagecaster. So if neither of them will work, the garbagecaster will just go on hold until i am less broke. I think i have the second neck working okay at the moment, anyhow. It is hard to tell, because it is strung with the following strings: EADGGG. The G will never tune up to high E. As a result i have it in something like open C. I am using the hateful three saddle tele bridge, so the intonation is always going to be screwy, but i think it might work. The action is a little weird. Too bad this neck isn't 100% because it is kind of cool. It must be basically what they use for blanks, i.e. before they carve a shape out of it, because the contour is fucking gigantic, fully in the fashion of a baseball bat.

Re: What i have been doing today...
I have never actually taken the time to try out D'Addarios. I tried Ernie Balls first and never felt any reason to try anything else.

Re: What i have been doing today...
I use D'Addarios. Ernie ball strings are too easy to pick too hard and knock the guitar out of tune, and they break easily. D'Addarios don't do that, and they stay not dead for much longer. I have zero experience with DR strings, though. Nobody around here carries them and I'm not going to order strings from MF. I'll save that experience for when I buy something that ships for free so the strings will too. Or I could just buy $100 worth of strings... I'd go through them in about 6 months anyway.

Re: What i have been doing today...
I also use the D'addario 11s on my Talman now.
And if I feel like going fancy with strings, I go DR.

Re: What i have been doing today...
I like the Dean Markely Blue Steels as well. I like the D'Addarios best when they're fresh, but the Blue Steels last longer. My other guitarist uses Blue Steels, and he has good toan. (He'd better. ) I have DRs on my bass. They're okay, I guess?

Re: What i have been doing today...
Oh, and this is what the garbagecaster looks liek at the moment: Lots of temporary fits. The tuners are temp borrowed from my old Charvette, the volume knob is borrowed from my main guitar, i am going to rout a proper plastic pickguard at some later point, and of course, the shitty neck will probably need to be replaced... Also, eventually, i intend to replace the pickup with a beefy rail humbucker. When i do that, i will add a second knob to it as well, not a tone knob though, rather, one to dial in whatever amount of coil split. I am thinking something that will be ridiculous like 15k in full humbucker mode, and a nice standard tele 7k single coil sound. It might be interesting. Otherwise, the body is promising, though i really wish i had kept it plain wood-colored. It makes a nice light guitar too, all told, just shy of six pounds with the other fucked up neck, and just about 6.25 pounds with this one.

Re: What i have been doing today...
Seconded. I use Blue Steels on all of my guitars...I also haven't changed strings on any of them in well over a year.

Re: What i have been doing today...
Well with that reasoning, once you started jerking off....... Oh and strings I use D'Addario, cheap, and I used different guitars in each project so I change them a lot. I also like 10-52's.
