Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead.

I remember that film being really good. I am a Shakespeare appreciationist (how's that for a word)

If you have not seen this film, watch Hamlet then watch this. You shall thank me.

If I remember correctly. :idk:

I never did watch that but I always wanted to. I think perhaps I should. In fact, I should harass my friend who collects Shakespeare films and get her to acquire that and have everyone over for goodnerdytimes. :huzzah:

Say what you will about Shakespeare's works, but motherfucker invented so many words we use today.

IIRC he invented/coined around 1700 words by changing verbs to nouns, nouns to verbs, combining words or just straight up making them up. We use a good bit of them to this day, including:

accommodation
aerial
amazement
apostrophe
assassination
auspicious
baseless
bloody
bump
castigate
changeful
clangor
control (noun)
countless
courtship
critic
critical
dexterously
dishearten
dislocate
dwindle
eventful
exposure
fitful
frugal
generous
gloomy
gnarled
hurry
impartial
inauspicious
indistinguishable
invulnerable
lapse
laughable
lonely
majestic
misplaced
monumental
multitudinous
obscene
palmy
perusal
pious
premeditated
radiance
reliance
road
sanctimonious
seamy
sportive
submerge
suspicious

and let's not forget all the awesome phrases he coined:

all that glitters isn't gold
barefaced
be all and end all
break the ice
breathe one's last
brevity is the soul of wit
catch a cold
clothes make the man
disgraceful conduct
dog will have his day
eat out of house and home
elbowroom
fair play
fancy-free
flaming youth
foregone conclusion
frailty, thy name is woman
give the devil his due
green eyed monster
heart of gold
heartsick
hot-blooded
housekeeping
it smells to heaven
it's Greek to me
lackluster
leapfrog
live long day
long-haired
method in his madness
mind's eye
ministering angel
more sinned against than sinning
naked truth
neither a borrower nor a lender be
one fell swoop
pitched battle
primrose path
strange bedfellows
the course of true love never did run smooth
the lady doth protest too much
the milk of human kindness
to thine own self be true
too much of a good thing
towering passion
wear one's heart on one's sleeve
witching time of the night

THIS CONCLUDES YOUR MUTHAFUCKIN' ENGLISH LESSON FOR THE MUTHAFUCKIN' DAY!

Shakespeare only sounds correct when it's coming from Patrick Stewart.

I feel you would be better than Capt Picard.

I can never, ever, disassociate Mr. Stewart from Capt. Picard. And will probably never be able to do so.

Luckily for us, he goes off into Shakespeare bouts on Next Generation.

Obviously for continuity purposes, seeing as Mr. Stewart was born in the early 1600s and is a vampire.

The reason Japan conceded to defeat in WWII is not because of nuclear weaponry, but because Patrick Stewart walked in and delivered a speech.

I kind of think Patrick Stewart could be canonized in the Maplitonian sainthood.
